flourishing. In fact.....sales have increased since the inter net came into our lives.
Not just in the doctors waiting area, magazines
are in our homes to stay. What ever your pleasure...
there is a mag to your liking.
From Time-to Fishing-to Cooking-to People-or to what
ever you find interesting & informative or
entertaining.... there is humble magazine,
just for you.
In 1879 congress created second class mail. Before that....
The American Post Office delivered magazines for only
very short distances, at a very high cost.
Until the 1880's....only the upper class read magazines.
With a three roll fed rotary printing press
and less cost to ship the product, the magazine price
war began.
In 1883 S.S.McClure dropped the price of his magazine to
$.15
His reader ship shot up, and he was phenomenally
successful.
Frank Munsey lowered his magazine to 10 cents! The thin dime got
thinner and soft cover books called magazines
were gobbled up by the masses.
Other publishers followed suit and soon the second class American's
had more to read than just newsprint and tabloids,
thanks to the second class mail.
